The interpretation was to abstract the striping. Both designs should be experienced as graphic geometric compositions. The contrast between the straight contours of the designs and the soft organic selected materials ‘abstracts’ and transforms them into painted or sculptured handmade rugs which can re-dimension living spaces.

For the base we chose to work with our RANA quality. The stripes are composed out of two alternating materials: fine New-Zealand Wool (NAYA) and luxurious Wool Silk (CLASS).

For the designs Livelli and Perspective stripes – JoV teamed up with Ben Beirens. A Belgian graphic multitalent, specialized in print & textile. The general concept of my signature collection for JOV is based on geometria. Inside the geometria, I chose to work with one of the most simplistic shapes of all: stripes. For the simple reason that mostly every fashion collection I’ve worked on over the years as a fashion print & textile designer, almost always contained a striping or color-blocking segment. It’s something strong that always comes back into fashion, season after season. My interpretation was to abstract the striping, by reshaping the stripes, applying diagonal perspective, layering and color interaction these overlapping colors create a sense of transparency. I intentionally used strong, in terms of size & scaling, shapes, so my designs would not be experienced as textures, but as graphic geometric compositions. The contrast between the straight contours of the design and the more soft and organic selected materials in which they are produced ‘abstracts’ the original designs and transforms them into painted or sculptured handmade rugs which can re-dimension living spaces and intrigue the human eye.
